That's an impressive coop!

Wow -
great job by Noel and Lily with the paint. Kind of gives new meaning to the term "mother-in-law appartment". Well, Nancy, when do we move in???

don't you mean "THE CHICHEN COOP!"
I had a great time telling my co-workers about the sign!
Can't wait for the eggs!

I'm looking to build a coop for 6 Barred Rocks and really like your design.

Have you had any more thoughts on getting the coop ready for winter? I'm in very Northern New York State, just South of the Canadian Border so I'm wondering how it would hold up to our winters.

Thanks!

Craig

Ben,
We're up in the northern part of Washington State so we're seeing regular temps below freezing and they seem to be doing fine. We've got a light that we turn on when it get's in the mid to low 20's. So far we've been down as cold as 15 degrees F and with the light on they have done fine. We've got five birds and they pretty much fill up the roost and are packed together at night which is good. If you're going to have 6 I'd increase the width to make room for 6 on the roost.

It probably would be a good idea to insulate the bottom and the walls which I haven't done. We'll see how it goes.

Here's the best article I've read on the subject.
