Liberty Lake Farmers' Market

Craig,

I'm at 6. Moscow, Spokane, Millwood, Liberty Lake, Kootenai, and the Community Building Market.

I'm not aiming to hit all 17, but perhaps Airway Heights, Sandpoint, South Perry, Humble Earth. Okay, how about 10.

Sandpoint is one of my favorite markets, both Wednesday and Saturday markets, although they are very different.

What about u-pick gardens and orchards. I usually make it to Seimers(for Strawberries), Greenbluff Gardens(got great peaches there last year), Strawberry Hill(for the best veggies around), Carver Farms(a little bit of everything), The blueberry farm just up the hill from my house, Reily Creek Blueberries(in between Sandpoint and Priest River for making sure we get enough berries for the freezer, and because it is such a nice u-pick operation).

As much as I love farmers' markets it is really great to get on the farm yourself. Of course it is more economical to get your food at a farmers' market as far as the aggregate fuel costs go, but picking it yourself is phenomenal.

Been two weeks in a row too:
Today: http://www.urbanharvest.org/index.html

Last weekend: http://www.ermasnutritioncenter.com/retailer/store_templates/ret_custom_page.asp?storeID=14266C65F09F4E5C89990CB4ADD1FCE4

They call these "farmer's markets", but really they seem more like "hippie gatherings".

That's okay, except for the music which is something like "The Renaissance Festival" meets "Peter, Paul and Mary".

I'm under the constant fear that somebody is going to break out into yodeling "This Is Our Land".

But maybe this is because I am a BBQ-cross-Gator regional... and this is more the Pine-Nut infiltrators or something.

Maybe I need to de-oxygenate my blood with a good mosquito letting.

I love the Farmers' Market in Moses Lake. It seems to have more farmers than artisans compared to Kootenai. Every time we go on a vacation I try to seek out the farmers' markets. One neat one was in Astoria. My daughter was almost three when we attended. I took some beautiful pictures of her at the market and we have some bed-time stories that I created around that visit to the market. The smallest market I have ever been to was in my hometown of Bridgeport. There were two vendors, one selling watermelons and muskmelons, and the other selling knitted items. Does anyone know if there is a market still in Idaho somewhere that is run by the famous Butters woman? Her name may be Mary or Jane Butters?

I don't know about the Butters women, but I was going to tell Keith that I hear someone singing "This Land is Your Land" all the time at Farmers Markets!

I was inspired to find the answer to my own question. Her name is MaryJane Butters. Check out this website, it is really cool and informative: maryjanesfarm.org. There is information about locally ground flour, a unique Bed and Breakfast, unique recipes for fresh vegetables, a farmers camp, locally made organic hiker's food and more!
